Education and Community Awareness Program
The Education & Community Program was developed in 1993 by North Shore ConneXions Society to promote community acceptance and participation of people with intellectual disabilities.
As a community service, North Shore ConneXions Society provides information sessions to increase awareness about people with an intellectual disability. We recognize that many members of our community have limited exposure to these individuals and may have questions and concerns.
Our presentation can be customized to suit audience needs and will provide your group with helpful tools for interacting with individuals with an intellectual disability. The presentation often includes:
• An opportunity for individuals to participate in developing a better understanding of what people with disabilities are capable of accomplishing, and helping to promote this positive image to the community.
• A focused look at the challenges, causes, and conditions associated with disabilities through discussion and a video presentation.
The program reaches approximately 1000 individuals throughout the education and business community annually. Audiences are interactive and insightful, often asking questions regarding disabilities they previously had no opportunity to share. The interactive format of the presentation fosters an ability to value diversity in our community.
